Run Banchory
Join us for the annual ‘Run Banchory’ event at King George V Park, Banchory, held every late August. Founded by local fitness enthusiast and SB Fitness owner, Scott Birse, this event reflects his deep passion for running and commitment to fostering a vibrant running community. Scott’s dedication is evident not only through this event but also in the various running classes he offers, catering to all abilities and encouraging a healthy, active lifestyle.
The event features multiple race distances to accommodate runners of all levels:
Half Marathon, 10K Race, 5K Race and the Kids Race
The Races
Each route predominantly winds through the scenic Scolty/Blackhall forest area, offering participants a blend of challenging terrains and picturesque landscapes.
Half Marathon

The Half Marathon route is a challenging but rewarding run that takes you deep into Blackhall Forest. Starting from the B974 near King George V Park, runners head south over the River Dee before veering into scenic woodland tracks. With a mix of trail and tarmac, this course offers stunning views and varied terrain for those looking to push themselves a little further.
10k Race

The 10K route shares the same starting point as the Half Marathon, heading over the River Dee and looping through Scolty Forest. It’s a mix of forest trail and paved road, making it ideal for intermediate runners. With rolling inclines and shaded woodland paths, this race offers a great balance of effort and enjoyment for those looking to take on a scenic local challenge.
5k Race

Perfect for newer runners or anyone chasing a quick time, the 5K route is a scenic loop starting from the same point as the longer races. Runners head south across the bridge, follow Blackhall Road, and sweep down to the riverside before returning to King George V Park. This mostly flat course gives you a chance to enjoy the views and still finish strong.
Kids Race

A fun and family-friendly race designed for primary-aged children (P1–P7), the Kids Race takes place within the safe grounds of King George V and Bellfield Park. The flat route encourages young runners to enjoy the thrill of the race, with plenty of support from the crowd. It’s the perfect way to get children active and involved in the day’s excitement.
